SA Special Olympics team bring home 59 medals

South Africa's Special Olympics team has collected 59 medals after competing in Abu Dhabi at the weekend.

The team has scooped fifty-nine medals - 35 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze.

CEO of Special Olympics South Africa, Ancilla Smith says

They certainly did South Africa proud, we were completely overwhelmed at their performance. One hundred percent given by every single athlete.

Despite the struggle to get consistent funding over the years, Smith says there was a lot of support with this year with awareness being crated around the team.

They are succeeding so incredibly well on an international stage and I really hope slowly but surely government will start to take note of this team that is representing our country.
