Commission for Gender Equality to work closely with SAPS to curb GBV

Written by: Zanele Zama

The Commission for Gender Equality says it will be working closely with police to combat violence against women and children during the 21-days lockdown.

Commission spokesperson Javu Baloyi says they understand it will be difficult for women to report the abusers when they are close by.

Speaking to Joanne Joseph, Baloyi says people can call these toll free numbers 0800 007 709 or 0800 150 150.

As the gender commission, we are here to make sure there is less commotion in the homes and children are not subjected to violent behaviour because of us men.

We are hoping that even the police, when they patrol and see something amiss, they will take it upon themselves.

It is going to be difficult and that is why we are concerned about this period.
