[LISTEN] Teaming up to put old devices to good use

Written by: Zanele Zama

Black Beard Technology is partnering with GirlCode to collect old tech devices to put them to good use and also get girls into coding.

Speaking to Azania Mosaka, Yolandi Strauss from Black Beard Technology says the "Tech Relief" initiative aims to collect and distribute "old" technological devices that are collecting dust in drawers around the world.

She says the devices can be used to meet the burning need for technological learning tools in educational institutions and initiatives, especially in underprivileged areas.

There is a digital divide in the world where you have households that have multiple devices new and old, then you have households that have nothing.

Yolandi Strauss, Black Beard Technology

Basically, we're looking for working technology, those in nonworking condition will be assessed.

Yolandi Strauss, Black Beard Technology

Our first batch of devices will go to GirlCode and they will link up their device to a specific candidate.
