Time magazine cheers Caster as one of the 100 most influential people in 2019

Written by: Elizabeth Kgabane

South African and Olympic gold medalist, Caster Semenya has been recognized as one of the 100 most influential people under the icons category by Time magazine, alongside Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Desmond Meade.

Semenya has reached milestones which include Commonwealth Games record with a gold medal win in the women's 1500m race, last year.

Edwin Moses, Olympic gold medalist described Semenya as the woman who has defied the odds of being discriminated for having higher testosterone levels than a typical female.

Semenya identifies as a woman but has testosterone levels higher than the typical female. Her success has brought controversy in elite sport, with many arguing that her biological traits give her an unfair advantage in women’s competition. But Semenya is fighting that.
