Applications for special voting now open - here's how to apply
With elections now just under five weeks away, the IEC, as required by law, has made provisions for South Africans who for some reasons won't be able to vote on May 8.
The applications for special voting are now open. But who is eligible to apply for special voting?
Western Cape provincial IEC electoral officer, Rev Courtney Sampson, explains the criteria to apply for a special vote.
This is to ensure that those people who are physically unable to make it to the voting stations can apply for a special vote and we as the IEC will visit them at their homes so that they can vote from home.— Rev Courtney Sampson, Provincial electoral officer - IEC Western Cape
The second category is for a South African citizen who for some reason cannot be at the voting station on the 8th of May but will be able to vote on 6 or 7 of May.— Rev Courtney Sampson, Provincial electoral officer - IEC Western Cape
