One of Cape Town's biggest meal service projects needs your help
A Cape Town organisation needs your help keeping the homeless and hungry fed.
The Service Dining Rooms is a canteen for the hungry and homeless in Zonnebloem which has been going since 1935.
They've appealed to the public, especially restaurants and coffee shops in the East City of Cape Town, to donate their bread and vegetables.

The Service Dining Rooms prepare and provide around 700 warm meals daily, from Monday to Friday.
They cater to homeless people in the city centre and also deliver to creches, clinics and church feeding schemes on the Cape Flats.

On-site meals are provided based on a token system which is liked to various to services or alternatively at a fee of R1.
Karen Caine, Operations manager at Service Dining Rooms, says bread, vegetables and fruit are in constant demand.
She adds that socks, scarves, beanies, gloves, disposable nappies, blankets, children's clothes and men's toiletries are also needed.
Drop offs are welcome between 7am and 2pm at 82 Canterbury Street.
We are serving about 200 people on site everyday.

In addition, we cook about 500 meals that go offsite to areas such as Gugulethu, Khayelitsha and Nyanga.

We don't ever turn anybody away but we sometimes run out of our main cooked meal and resort to giving them rolls or bread, without the vegetables, rice and protein.
