'I just want to be a normal kid again'

13-year-old dialysis patient Brandon Booysen has been on dialysis since he age of four and spent nearly ten years being treated at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital until he was transferred to the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital recently.

He and his mom sat down with Joanne Joseph to talk about his experience at the children's hospital over the last few weeks.

I will do dialysis Monday,Wednesday and Friday and then Tuesday I would go to the play area or something.

His mom, Lucille has been provided with a place to stay during Brandon's time at the hospital. She shared her relief at the how efficient the facility is and how it has contributed to the improvement of her son's health.

This hospital is much different from what we have experienced. Here they have opportunities to go to the play areas. Ipads to keep themselves busy and do education. They have got much more freedom here.

There is more happening in the two to three weeks that we have been here, with regarding with the counselling he is getting for anxiety, treatment.... things are happening faster.
