Founders of PetroCare create product that financially protects petrol attendants

Written by: Bontle Ndlovu

In this segment of South Africans Doing Great Things, #NightTalk host Gugu Mhlungu chats to Nhlanhla Nkabinde and Thambe Randitsheni about their product for petrol attendants.

Nhlanhla Nkabinde and Thambe Randitsheni are doing interesting things in the insurance industry space. They have created a product called PetroCare, which provides financial protection for petrol attendants against claims arising from their duties.

Nhlanhla Nkabinde and Thambe Randitsheni say that they came up with the idea for this product three years ago when they were consulting for a dealership. A client had a car that malfunctioned and they assisted her, the founders of PetroCare say.

Nhlanhla Nkabinde and Thambe Randitsheni mention that with the information they had, they called the garage with an invoice. The management of the petrol station said that the petrol attendant who made the mistake had to pay the R4000 invoice.

From there on, we took this to heart and it became our responsibility to actually find out what the extent of the problem is with petrol attendants.

We didn’t sleep for a few months and we would visit each and every petrol station around the vicinity asking petrol attendants what happens if you make a mistake.
