Water Ass. CEO: We had water left so we'd rather give it to Cape Town

The Groenland Water Users Association donated several million cubic metres of water to Cape Town at 11 am on Tuesday morning.

The principle reason Day Zero has been pushed back to 11 May is due to the contribution by the agricultural sector.

Pippa Hudson talks to Johan Groenewald, CEO at Groenland Water Users Association (GWUA).

The Association manages water use in the Elgin/Grabouw catchment area.

Groenewald explains the process of opening the valves at 11 am on Tuesday morning in the Palmiet River area all the way to the Steenbras Dam.

We had water left so we'd rather give it to Cape Town, explains Groenewald. Farmers are donating water from private dams.
