[LISTEN] 27 for Freedom Festival celebrates Madiba's legacy

Written by: Bontle Ndlovu

27 for Freedom is a festival that’s dedicated to the life of Nelson Mandela. It takes place at the Drakenstein Correctional Services (DCS) where the former President spent the last 18 months of his incarceration.

The event is in honour of South Africa’s greatest statesman, and the father of our democracy. The festival is geared towards restoring the hope that ordinary South Africans will come together and commit to carrying his legacy forward.

The organiser of the event Manfred says that this year - the call is around Mandela’s legacy. We established a variety of events to pay homage and justice to Madiba’s legacy he says.

Manfred adds that they start the festival this coming Saturday with a soccer challenge, he adds that there’s an art exhibition, open mic and poetry challenge as well.

We have a group of experts that will come here and actually facilitate the work with the children.

Manfred says that there will also be a seminar on sports, and the issue of transformation will be tackled in all aspects. He adds that the festival will also have a boxing challenge.

Manfred says that the main event will take place on the 10th of February. He adds that there seems to be a genuine interest from the public to attend the festival.

We will have a Freedom concert that is free of charge.
