Cape Town woman creates a rap song to help children understand alphabets

Written by: Lengwadishang Ramphele

Greta Bredell has a passion for spreading her love of reading and cultivating a love of books to children.
She started reading to a group of local children and was disheartened to find that many of them could not read.

She also discovered that some of the children loved rap music and decided to do a rap on how to learn the alphabets.

I am not a teacher and I don't know what I am really doing. I can see they love rap and maybe I should write a little rap song to teach them how to write the alphabets which is better that singing about bad things.

Greta Bredell, kids rap song writer

Bredell has recorded a few CDs that she has given to the children to listen to and dance to the alphabets.

She is now looking at producing a video that will go with the rap song but has no funds for it. She is asking members of the public to help her record a video for the song.
