Well wishes for 702's Xolani Gwala

Written by: Eyewitness News

JOHANNESBURG - Joburg-based talk radio station 702 has wished popular host Xolani Gwala well as he deals with a medical challenge.

The station announced on Friday morning that Gwala would be taking time off to focus on his health. The media personality presents the breakfast show on 702 but has been out of the hot seat for the last few weeks.

In a voice note broadcast on 702, Gwala gave a personal update on his absence, thanking his audience for their support and concern.

Gwala explained that the team of medical experts who are working with him are still assessing him and exploring treatment options, and indicated that he will give an update on his condition when he and his family, as well as his medical advisors are ready to.

“In the meantime, we ask please for your understanding and that you respect our family’s right to privacy in this most challenging time,” said Gwala.

702 listeners took to social media to wish the talk show host well.

“We completely support Xolani and his family’s request for time and space, and we know that 702 listeners will share our heartfelt wishes for his speedy recovery,” said 702 Station Manager, Thabisile Mbete.

The breakfast show will be hosted by Stephen Grootes until further notice.
