In his line of work, the judge says he depends on the support of some of his peers.

It's a very lonely job being a judge. People don't understand that. We're not repositories of all wisdom.

Judge Davis says that young people often take for granted the opportunities to learn from others.

When you're young, you don't ask enough. You don't tap into their knowledge as much as you should.

It's only when you get older that you reflect upon that.

He says he has received lifelong advice and wisdom from his parents, friends and colleagues.

I hope [my children] reflect and say; actually, that old geezer is a lot wiser than I thought he was.

Judge Davis remains optimistic that South Africans will see change from the troubling state of affairs in the country.

Things do pass. It will change. There have been extraordinary non-racial demonstrations. That's inspirational.

The discourse in South Africa is changing. We're getting a diversity of views [on the politics of the country].
