Cardboard cut-out cop cars part of Easter campaign, startle motorists
Cardboard cut-outs of Tshwane Metro Police Department cars spotted along the N1 toll route between Pretoria and Bela Bela, and the N4 toll route highways are part of an Easter road safety campaign.
The Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire is the brainchild behind the campaign.
Operations Manager, Liam Clarke shares how the idea was sparked by a concept called ‘speed by illusion’.
This is one of the things they have done in Australia, in the UK and in the US, is to put up cut outs of police vehicles that from a distance look like the real thing and when you get close up you realise that you have actually been deceived.— Liam Clarke, Operations Manager at Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concession
We have been taken aback by the response that it is actually had, one person, in particular, said that when she saw it she immediately slammed on breaks and when she reflected she said well actually I was speeding and I needed to stick to the speed limit.— Liam Clarke, Operations Manager at Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concession
