Lead SA launches "Living the Constitution" Campaign
4 February 2017 marked the 20th anniversary of the date that our Constitution came into effect. It is the backbone of our democracy and in the year leading up to its 21st birthday, Lead SA believes it is important to ensure that this landmark document forms part of our country’s conversation as we reflect on our successes and our failures.
Drafted by some of the country’s finest minds, and setting a global example for the promotion of inclusive, participatory democracy, The South African Constitution was forged at a time when freedom and equality were values that people had lost lives fighting for. The role of the Constitution is as important now as it ever has been as we grapple with increasingly complex issues of governance, accountability, and the implementation of basic rights.
Over the next 12 months Lead SA will roll out a campaign called “Living the Constitution”. It will showcase aspects of the document; highlight the work of civil society organisations working to promote the rights and values that are enshrined in the Constitution and celebrate some of the heroes who contributed to the creation of our democracy. The intent of the campaign is to celebrate the achievements of our democracy and to reflect on the work we still have to do.

The initiative will roll out through key themes, from human rights to political and economic freedom, Africa, youth and education.
Content will be promoted through podcasts, social media, personality profiles, on air discussions and public service announcements.
The first spike will be in the form of Twitter takeovers by organisations working to promote human rights. Candid, chatty or deep – the platform will be open to anyone to engage with specialists in their field through @lead_sa at any level they want to.
