Out of The Box and Into South Africa's Future
Working in over 112 communities on the East Rand to assist hundreds of individuals to become self-sufficient entrepreneurs and skilled workers is no easy feat, but for our Lead SA Hero for December, Nina Venjakob, it is what keeps her going.
Founded in the 80's, was established to pass on skills to improve lives of South Africans. By up-skilling communities, and assisting individuals to start up small businesses, it helps to put food on the table, build a future and it means they are there with their kids, keeping them off the streets, away from gangs and drugs.
In short, Out of the Box is an initiative to create an employed South Africa.
Speaking with 702's Bruce Whitfield this morning, Nina explains that initiatives like this one need support from corporates and individuals alike in order to run effective campaigns with sustainable impacts!
"We manage with limited funding to skill about 300 people a year; we'd love to up that to 1 200 a year which is easy to do - we have everything we just lack the money."— Nina Venjakob, Founder of Out of The Box
"I was born trying to improve people's lives, I grew u on a coal mine and I've always, always tried to improve people's lives...when there's a success story it makes it worth every single bit of pain that we grow through to get there."— Nina Venjakob, Founder of Out of The Box
