Days of Hope
Many hundreds of thousands of children go to school hungry every day. How can children learn when they are hungry?
Ladles of Love decided to start Days of Hope, and it is part of the Mandela Day & Beyond initiative they launched with other like-minded organisations.
It started on Mandela Day this year we decided that we wanted to create something that is a Mandela Day everyday.— Danny Diliberto
'Days of Hope’ is launching a school feeding initiative at Prestwich Primary in Green Point.
The Days of Hope initiative will assist many of the learners at this school who travel - often on an empty stomach - in the early hours of the morning with their parents, who work in the city.
They come from areas far outside the city and some have to get up as early as 4:30 to be at school on time.
On Friday, 14 Oct, an inspirational morning of song, dance, magic and mindfulness exercises will kick-start the initiative at the school, which serves over 760 pupils. The aim is also to bring to the school a life-skills course which teaches children to make positive choices, via one of the partner organisations.
