Sipho's touching story gets him assistance

Written by: Lengwadishang Ramphele

CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies spoke to Lenke Elferink, kennel and clinic manager at Hermanus Animal Welfare Society last week who narrated a touching story of a boy named Sipho, who is passionate about animal care.

The Hermanus Animal Welfare Society was raising money for Sipho to get him a good education.

A CapeTalk listener who heard Sipho's story approached Masizole Mnqasela, chairperson of the Standing Committee on Local Government in the Western Cape Parliament for help.

Mnqasela visited Sipho and his family and he says he realised the boy could not speak a word of English, which he found concerning.

When he asked Sipho what he wanted to be when he grows up the little boy said he wanted to be a dog doctor because it hurts him when his dogs are sick.

Sipho is the kind of a child that South Africa needs right now, a child that is not going to be dictated by his background and culture.

Mnqasela says he is still in negotiations with schools in Hermanus asking them to accommodate Sipho for free.

Kieno Kammies also challenged the veterinary industry to help Sipho and make a donation towards his studies.

We are going to support Sipho, this is not just a headline that will die the next day
