Lead SA
YOU can change the world. Lead SA is a personal call to every person to make a difference. We all have a responsibility to make the world a better place. It could be as simple as making a stranger smile or as big as fighting to further the rights entrenched in our Constitution. Each act makes a difference. This website tells the stories of people who are making our country a better place.

Lavender memorial garden for Lavender Hill victims.

“About 23 people have been killed in the past 6 weeks in gang related violence in the Cape Flats” – News24. This is not a life. Children being shot on the way home from school, people dying or being paralysed by flying bullets. This is the life in Lavender Hill and surroundings.

Even though our project is still very small we make a difference and bring hope to this community. We will be planting a Memorial Garden for all the people who have died during this time. Our nursery manager Vuyesile is talking to the community members, asking them where they believe the most appropriate spot for the memorial garden will be. As soon as they have decided we will start clearing the land, painting the walls behind the land purple and planting lavender plants. We will encourage the community members to come and join us in planting and to write the names of the victims on the memorial wall.

If you would like to get involved, volunteer some time to help plant this memorial garden – contact lavender.lavenderhill@gmail.com to organise when you or your group would like to join us. We will start clearing the land next week.

If you would like to get involved in another way we will need the following for the memorial garden and walls:

-          Soil/fertilizer

-          Bonemeal

-          Paint (outdoor) of a lilac/lavender colour to cover about 7m of memorial wall
