Support Team SA as they head for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Lead SA and SASCOC supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation will be hosting a send-off for Team SA on Thursday, July 19 at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg as they head for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Lead SA said: “We call on citizens to come out in their numbers and bid our champions good luck and farewell as they prepare to take on the world.

“We did it for Bafana Bafana, we did it for the Springboks and we did it for the Proteas – now it’s time to do it for our Olympic stars. There is no doubt that our support as a nation will motivate Team SA to bring home the medals.”

The send-off will start at 4pm when scores of Olympians will bid family and fans farewell. Crowds have been urged to arrive from 3.30pm onwards.

The send-off will be broadcasted live on SuperSport and radio stations, including Talk Radio 702. Other broadcast media have been invited to join in.

Sports Minister, Fikile Mbalula, SASCOC management and celebrities will be at the airport to wish Team SA well.

The venue for the send-off is the International Trade Bureau, which is situated across from the International Terminal Building. The public has also been urged to use the Gautrain to ensure easy access.

Supporters have been encouraged to wear their South African colours.

Meanwhile, Lead SA has also called on fans to continue supporting “Team SA Fridays” by wearing their sporting colours in support of the Olympic team.

“There is no doubt that sport unites us. If there was ever a time to revive the gees, it is now. We are blessed with scores of talented and passionate athletes who will represent us on the international stage. Let’s show the world that Team SA has the support of over 50-million fans,” said Lead SA.
