Holding onto hope at iKhaya le Themba.

In this Pied Piper Project instalment, a LeadSA and Daily News initiative, Justin Nurse talks to Katherine Morse, director of iKhaya le Themba, Home of Hope, which offers holistic after-school care to primary school kids in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay.

As a family we spent a year in Johannesburg in 2003, doing volunteer work. We fell in love with South Africa, and got heartsore on our return to Sydney. We loved that it was easy to do small things that made a difference; we loved that being here made me feel alive in a way that we didn’t back in Australia.

In Australia I was a child and family psychologist, and I’ve been doing that kind of work with NGOs for more than 20 years now. It took us three years as a family to emigrate from Australia to Cape Town.
